In the Pyrenees!

In the Pyrenees!

Back in the mountains!
I am yet again training in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Last week I arrived in Les Angles, France at 1650m which is in the Pyrenees, with a few stages of the Tour de France and an altitude training center very close by. We are swimming up at the training center in Font Romeu at 1850 metres with the most amazing sunrises…makes it tough to focus in the swim warm up! As you can guess there are no shortage of hills and trails to bike and run. A few days ago we rode part of one of the tour stages and you could feel the energy from the roads and see the writing on the roads for some of the cycling legends…very cool!
Our first week was a bit of a shock from the Gold Coast with temperatures of minus 1! I know I’m supposed to be a tough Alberta girl but its official…I’ve gone soft and suffer in the cold. We were a bit concerned that it would stay cold, but this week has been perfect, sunny and warm again. The ski hill has closed for the year and the snow is almost gone. I feel fortunate to have such a great training environment. We are now up to 6 athletes and have an awesome group here to keep each other motivated and laughing.
Later this week I will travel to Richards Bay, South Africa for the next World Cup. I am feeling great and very excited to test my fitness again. Richards Bay is a great race venue and I look forward to returning and racing well.
Thanks for all of your support…sorry the communication has been limited. My image of wireless in our rooms didn’t pan out, but I am checking emails a few times a week so keep them comin!!

Cheers,
Carolyn 
